We Love Erica!!!

Erica is my niece Rachel’s Best friend. I just love

her. She calls me Aunt Jess Just like my Rachel

does. She is one of the most sweet and loving

people I know. I made this for her and gave it to

her just as a surprise, to celebrate her, plus we

had a little party where her mom and

grandmother came!

Fabric collecting and cutting done by Marian Tworek and donated to Jessica Lowry who designed and constructed this quilt.

These beautiful batiks sewed together with almost no pinning, which is a nice change for me.  I haven’t had a chance to get this quilted yet. I don’t want to tie it since that would be a waste of these expensive batiks.

This is the ghost fish in the river of time. My favorite square.

Designed and constructed by Jessica Lowry and Cut by Marian Lowry Tworek

My Sister Marian Lowry Tworek invited me down to Dallas, TX for a vacation and while we were together we made a wedding quilt for for our friend Erica.  Our family always takes advantage of the amount of work 2 or more people can complete on a visit.  Marian had been collecting batiks for many years and she did all of the cutting. I did all the ironing and we speed sewed together.  We cut every bit of batiks she had into 3 1/2 x 7 inch rectangles for Erica quilt. Then She cut the rest into 4 1/2 inch squares, 6 1/2 inch sqaures. and all the rest into 2/12 in strips.  I got to take home all the 4 1/2 inch squares and half of the strips.   I separated the cool colors (Blues and greens) from the warm colors (Yellows, orange and reds and hot pinks) and divided up the purples to have some in both.   Here is the gorgeous result.  I loved this but made it particularly for my friend, Julia Koerner.  I have decided to beg Marian for the other warm tone batiks to make another for myself.

Jacob Peck and Amanda Call Wedding Quilt

Designed and constructed by Jessica Lowry and Nancy Lowry

This quilt was specially designed for my son Jacob Adam Peck and his bride to be Amanda Marie Call. This is the first of my children to get married and it’s so exciting! My mother made me a pansy wedding quilt and I have made one for Jenna (my daughter) as well, but Amanda wanted to continue the tradtion as well. So this has pansies for Amanda and Jake’s only request was “nothing too girly”.

The initial paper design is shown in blue, because it stands out better that way, but it is done in purples. The four patches are all done in dark purples.

The center medallion set on point is hand embroidered by me and machine appliqued on the pansies by Jake’s Nana (NancyLowry)

Here is the label written with a Pigma permanent pen and then hand appliqued. Adding a label serves to recognize the person and/or the special event and also increases the value of the quilt

Here is the finished product. The pic was taken in our backyard in Mount Airy, Maryland

and here is the best darn dog in the world, Zulu! (who knows better than to lay on this quilt!) Zulu loves you too, Jake! Alas Jacob and Amanda have since divorced.  However Jacob kept the quilt!

Designed and constructed by Amanda Call and Jessica Lowry

This is the quilt I made for my twin sister Melissa, for Christmas last year. She said the tulips looked like Kittys the way we tied them, so that came to be the name. She is leaving on a Mission to Bolivia on September 13, 2006, and is taking this quilt with her. I am so excited for her!!! Update on quilt, it did not, unfortunately, get to go to Bolivia, Lissa decided that she’d rather not have it stolen or some other travesty.

Here is the Graduation quilt for my oldest son Joshua Peck. He graduated from Granite H.S. May of 2002 with Nika. This one has rainbow shades of yin-yang symbols. It symbolizes Josh’s belief that everything in life is balanced. He’s always liked this symbol. It’s backed in polar fleece making it a very warm blanket for winter. Then he was stationed in Okinawa where the winters aren’t as cold as here in Salt Lake City, Utah. However now he is home again and gets alot of use from his quilt.

It wasn't hard finding great words to describe Josh!

My daughter Jenna Peck married Matthew Ryan Wise on May 28th, 2004. This beautiful quilt is done from a family traditional pattern.  My mother made these purple pansies for me and We both made this one for Jenna.  It’s a lovely quilt for my beautiful daughter.

This is The label on the back of the quilt

This is a family tradition that we have started. My mother NancyLowry made me these pansie squares well before I got married and then together we put them together to make my wedding quilt.

My daughter Jenna is alot like me and she loves the color purple and pansies. She also believes in starting and continuing family traditions. So I am already starting to make the pansy squares for her (as yet unborn) daughter.

These are done with as many different purples as possible.

This quilt I did for a daughter of my heart. My Jenika is a beautiful flaming redhead. She is bold and audacious and so is this fun and funny quilt I made for her high school graduation May 2002. This quilt is made of denim squares cut 6 1/2″ by 6 1/2″. I have cutting parties for the weekend where me and my daughter just cut up old jeans. There always seem to be some around. I used only the wildest fabrics I could find for the cats. I used butons for the eyes deliberately sewn to make the cats look goofy. Some of the cat faces are offset in different ways to make this quilt an expression of individuality, just like my Nika. The cat sitting on the quilt belongs to a friend of my sister. Her name is Mahona. She is a 10 cow cat. She just came right over as we were preparing to take this picture and laid right down on the quilt. She is the perfect touch for this pic.

Now called “Limeade on a Summers Day”  The blue reminds me of the summer sky and well the limey greens speak for themselves.  Actually these pictures don’t hold a candle to the quilt in person.

This is for my full sized bed

Designed and constructed by Nancy        Lowry and Tied by Nancy, Walt and Jessica Lowry, Marian Tworek and Belinda Wilcox

I have decided to call this quilt  “The Anti-Black Hole Quilt”  shown here at that black hole of bureaucracy, the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles.  My parents and I had to get our Drivers licenses switched from Maryland to Utah.  I hate waiting in lines. I also hate the way people have nothing to do there but stare at other people.  We always plan ahead and the 3 of us had books, but you know what i mean.

I am starting a series of gorgeous quilts in ugly, awful or unlikely locations.  Get daring and send us your pictures for this series.

This quilt is a simple block for first timers.  It’s just a picture frame.  I love rainbows though and I couldn’t resist begging this quilt off my mom.  Hope you like it
